FRAUD HOTLINE 1-888-95-FRAUD

Insurance fraud costs American policyholders and taxpayers an estimated $120 billion each year. That translates into an estimated $1,000 per year per average American household.

Thomas A. Gosski, President of the Sumter Insurance Group, was recognized for his efforts in conceiving and establishing a statewide insurance Fraud Hotline which permits members of the public to report suspected insurance fraud anonymously to the Insurance Fraud Division of the SC Attorney General's Office.

Gosski, while he served as President of the Professional Insurance Agents of South Carolina (PIA of SC), suggested the idea which became a joint project of Attorney General Charlie Condon's Office, the SC Insurance News Service and PIA of SC.

He was recognized by SC Director of Insurance Ernie Csiszar during a news conference at the State House in Columbia which announced Governor Jim Hodges' proclamation of November 7-13 as Insurance Fraud Awareness Week.

At the news conference, Csiszar, Director of the SC Attorney General's Office Insurance Fraud Division Michele LaVenture and consumer advocate Phil Porter urged the public to recognize the financially detrimental impact of insurance fraud and fight to eliminate it.

The Insurance Fraud Hotline, described as the centerpiece of the statewide public awareness campaign, can be accessed by dialing 1-888-95-FRAUD.
